The Kansas City Chiefs are beefing up their offensive line as they continue their pursuit of another Super Bowl appearance, a feat they’ve achieved in four of the last six seasons. Reports reveal that the team has reached an agreement with seasoned left tackle D.J. Humphries on a one-year contract.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deal, facilitated by his representation at AMDG Sports, includes a $2 million base salary and performance-based bonuses that could elevate its value to $4.5 million.
The 30-year-old veteran, entered the NFL in 2015 as a first-round draft pick for the Arizona Cardinals. Over nine seasons, he solidified his reputation as a reliable offensive lineman, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2021.
However, after an ACL injury in Week 17 of last season, the Cardinals released him in March. Having fully recovered, Humphries now brings a wealth of experience to a Chiefs squad in need of reinforcement at left tackle.
The Chiefs have experimented with rookie Kingsley Suamataia and second-year player Wanya Morris at the position this season, but Humphries’ arrival offers a steadying presence as the team looks to refine its protection schemes.
Following a rare setback-a 30-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Chiefs currently sit at 9-1 and remain one of the league’s top contenders. They’re set to take on the 3-7 Carolina Panthers this Sunday, though Humphries isn’t expected to suit up just yet.
If all goes well, his debut could come during the team’s high-stakes Black Friday clash against the Las Vegas Raiders.
