The Tush Push controversy is heating up again, and this time, Jason Kelce isn’t staying quiet.

The Philadelphia Eagles legend found himself back in the middle of the debate after a controversial sequence involving the Seattle Seahawks’ version of the famous quarterback sneak reignited arguments over how the play should be officiated.
Seattle attempted its own version of the Eagles’ short-yardage play — nicknamed the “Barnyard” — during its season opener against the New England Patriots. But the attempt was wiped out by an offensive offside penalty, immediately sending fans into a frenzy.

The former Eagles center offered a technical explanation, pointing out that an offensive player can be penalized for having any part of their body in the neutral zone when the ball is snapped.

According to reports, Kelce rejected the accusation and pointed to the defensive alignment on the play instead, arguing that a Miami Dolphins player was actually offside.
For Kelce, the exchange wasn’t simply about defending his former team. It highlighted something he has repeatedly emphasized throughout the Tush Push debate: the play is more complicated than it looks from the outside.
During his playing career, Kelce was at the center of Philadelphia’s version of the quarterback sneak alongside Jalen Hurts. He previously explained that the play requires extensive practice, precise timing and coordination between multiple offensive players.
That history makes Kelce’s latest comments particularly interesting.
The Tush Push has been one of the NFL’s most polarizing plays in recent years. Eagles supporters have embraced it as a brilliantly executed short-yardage weapon, while critics have repeatedly questioned whether it belongs in the modern game.
The debate became especially intense in 2025, when NFL owners voted on a proposal to ban the play. The proposal failed by two votes, leaving the Tush Push legal. Kelce was among those who spoke in support of keeping it.
Interestingly, the NFL entered the 2026 season without a new proposal to ban the play, suggesting that the league’s battle over the controversial tactic has cooled considerably.
But the latest Seahawks controversy shows that the argument isn’t completely dead.
For Kelce, however, the message appears clear: if fans want to criticize the Tush Push, they need to understand exactly what they’re watching before declaring that Philadelphia — or any other team — is getting special treatment.
And judging by his response, the Eagles legend isn’t afraid to defend the play he helped make famous.
