JUST IN: Jennifer Hudson and Common passionately kiss and gush about marriage and their love languages on her talk show
Wedding bells are clearly in store for Jennifer Hudson and Common, who passionately kissed each other and openly discussed marriage and their love languages on her self-titled syndicated talk show on Thursday.
At first, the 43-year-old EGOT champ took a bit of a confrontational approach asking the 52-year-old rapper (who’s only a Tony away from EGOT status) why he said ‘If I’m going to get married, it’s to her’ on The Breakfast Club back in July.
‘You told me a quote that your mother said, “A man knows what he wants.” I was saying my true feelings about, listen, Jennifer is the person,’ Common (born Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr.) confirmed.
‘If I should be married, it will be to Jennifer Kate Hudson. You know what I’m saying? I was just being honest. Where do you stand on that?’
Jennifer responded: ‘You know what? My mother was right. I think if she had met you she would’ve said, ‘I don’t know about the rest of them but that Common is alright with me!” That’s what she would say, and I would agree. I think [marriage] is a beautiful thing I think you are a deserving man and, you know, I support that idea.’
The Chicago natives then began holding hands intimately as the in-studio audience went wild.
‘I think it’s a beautiful idea. I will say that! Now, hold on! In due time, you know, if it ever gets to that place. You know, we’ll make that decision,’ Hudson stated.
Common – whose collaborator Pete Rock offered to DJ their wedding – replied: ‘I’m listening to God more and more and I know what purpose is and I feel like this is purpose right here, you and I.’
The hip-hop star then gave the R&B belter a hummingbird pendant necklace and an animal-print blanket emblazoned with the title of her Christmas album, The Gift of Love (dropping October 18), which he helped name.
‘Jennifer like gifts. She got different love languages but she like gifts,’ Common gushed.
Jennifer – who calls him Rashid – added: ‘He like affirmations and words and things like that.’
Hudson later presented the Silo actor with her talk show’s Joyful Spirit Award ‘because you are every bit of that. You continue to make the world a more joyful place for me and all of us. There is nobody like you.’
‘What I love most about him he is a praying man,’ the All I Need singer gushed.
‘Okay, yes you are. And he’s a man of his word. He is like nobody I have ever seen in my life. I talk about choosing joy. You are joy. You are my joy and you are light.’
Jennifer and Common also performed their new duet A GOD (There Is) off his collaborative album The Auditorium Vol. 1 with Pete Rock, which dropped July 12.
Before Hudson – the life-long bachelor famously loved and left the likes of singer Erykah Badu, actress Taraji P. Henson, tennis icon Serena Williams, actress Laura Dern, On 1 podcaster Angela Rye, and comedian Tiffany Haddish.
The Dreamgirls alum originally met Common in 2022 while co-starring as married couple and parents Maya and Darius in Stefon Bristol’s dismally-reviewed sci-fi thriller Breathe, which was released on April 26.
The Wise Up rapper is father to 27-year-old daughter Omoye Assata Lynn, who’s a litigation associate at Kirkland & Ellis, with his ex-girlfriend Kim Jones.
Jennifer is mother to 15-year-old son David Daniel Otunga, Jr. aka DOJ from her decade-long romance with ex-fiancé David Otunga, which ended in 2017.
Hudson is next scheduled to put her three-octave mezzo-soprano pipes to good use with a November 3 concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA.
The Sex and the City alum’s other upcoming projects include Cal Brunker’s 2026 animated movie PAW Patrol 3 and she’ll produce a Broadway musical adaptation (premiering spring 2025) of the 2012-2013 NBC series Smash on which she portrayed Veronica Moore.
