JUST IN: The Chiefs Recovered with a wonderful TOUCHDOWN.
The first drive of the season for the Chiefs’ defense was not a good one for Steve Spagnuolo’s unit. Twice, the Ravens converted when they forced into a third-and-long situation — third-and-11 and third-and-9 — when quarterback Lamar Jackson completed a swing pass to running back Justice Hill (for 18 yards) and pass over the middle of the field to receiver Zay Flowers (19 yards).
Once they reached near the red zone, the Ravens had Lamar Jackson attack the Chiefs’ backup edge defender, Malik Herring, on back-to-back designed quarterback runs on the perimeter. Then the Ravens end the first drive of the 2024 season with a 5-yard touchdown run from running back Derrick Henry, one of their biggest offseason additions.
The first touch in Xavier Worthy’s career was quite a memorable one. Instead of a reception, Worthy, the Chiefs’ rookie receiver and first-round pick, was given the ball on a play-action reverse on a snap that began from the Ravens’ 21-yard line. Showcasing his elite speed — as he ran the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine in a record-setting 4.21 seconds — Worthy sprinted past multiple defenders before reaching the end zone for his first-career touchdown.
The over/under in the Ravens-Chiefs game fell to 42.5 points at BetMGM shortly after the opening kickoff, but that number has since spiked after these teams traded touchdowns, as the over/under is now 53.5 points in live in-game betting at BetMGM (-115 odds on either side of the wager).
