For decades, Mike Tyson was regarded as one of the most terrifying and physically intimidating athletes ever to step inside a boxing ring. His explosive punches, incredible strength and intimidating presence made him a nightmare for opponents. But recent photographs of the legendary heavyweight champion have left many fans wondering whether the man once feared by the entire boxing world is quietly battling serious health challenges.
Two photographs circulating online have particularly attracted attention.
In one picture, Tyson appears shirtless inside a gym, displaying a noticeably different physique from the incredibly muscular body that once dominated the heavyweight division. Although he still appears physically strong, his appearance has prompted conversations about his health and physical condition.
The second photograph has generated even more concern. Tyson is seen sitting in a wheelchair at what appears to be an airport, with a staff member standing behind him. The image has raised questions about his mobility and whether the former heavyweight champion is experiencing difficulties that require medical attention.
But what exactly is happening to Mike Tyson?
A HISTORY OF HEALTH CHALLENGES
What makes the photographs particularly concerning is that Tyson has previously spoken publicly about experiencing significant health problems.
In August 2022, photographs of the boxing legend sitting in a wheelchair at Miami International Airport went viral. The images immediately generated speculation about his condition.
Tyson subsequently addressed the concerns, revealing that he suffers from sciatica, a condition involving irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve.
The condition can cause severe pain that travels from the lower back down one or both legs. Tyson explained that his symptoms sometimes become so intense that he struggles to speak.
However, that was not the only health challenge he would encounter.
In May 2024, Tyson experienced a frightening medical emergency while travelling from Miami to Los Angeles. His representatives initially attributed the incident to an ulcer flare-up that caused nausea and dizziness.
The situation was considerably more serious than many people initially realised.
During a subsequent interview, Tyson revealed that he had been vomiting blood, required multiple blood transfusions and lost approximately 25 pounds during the ordeal.
He reportedly received around eight to ten blood transfusions while receiving treatment.
The medical emergency was serious enough to force the postponement of his highly anticipated boxing match against Jake Paul.
