Why Kanye West and Grammy-winning rapper turned down a Collaboration with Taylor Swift on her forthcoming Album

Lil Nas X (real name Montero Lamar Hill) passed on the opportunity to collaborate on a track with Taylor Swift.
On Thursday, March 27, the 25-year-old singer/rapper spoke to E! News at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles and revealed he was “working on something” with the 35-year-old popstar, but it never came to fruition.
The “Industry Baby” hitmaker told the outlet, “She offered to let me try a verse on something, but I couldn’t catch a vibe for it, so it didn’t happen.”
Despite not moving forward on the song, the two-time Grammy Award-winning artist praised the “All Too Well” singer.
“I’m proud of my girl. I love the album. She’s been doing her thing. She’s at the very tippety top,” he gushed. “I’m thankful that she even considered me.”
However, the musician noted he was still open to working with Swift one day, quipping, “When it happens… Global. World. Tay-tay and Nassy.”
The “Panini” singer added that he has been focused on his upcoming album Dreamboy but would love to work with other artists.
“I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of in my own zone right now just focused on me. I’m super open to working with all the girls that I love, everybody that’s doing their thing right now,” he told the publication.
Lil Nas shot to fame after releasing “Old Town Road” in 2018. After releasing his remix with Billy Ray Cyrus in 2019, he found even greater success with the song.
As for Swift, she has collaborated with several rappers throughout her career. On her most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, she featured Post Malone on the track “Fortnight.” On her Midnights album, the 14-time Grammy Award-winning singer teamed up with Ice Spice for a remix of “Karma.” Additionally, Swift included Kendrick Lamar on her 2014 hit “Bad Blood,” on the 1989 album, which they re-released in 2023 as part of her re-recorded album.
