JUST IN: Taylor Swift teases ‘unfailingly polite’ Post Malone for taking forever to stop calling her ‘MRS KELCE’

Post Malone isn’t just the music industry’s favorite collaborator, he’s also quite the gentleman.

Taylor Swift and Post Malone took the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday to accept the award for Best Collaboration for their song “Fortnight” when Swift revealed her friend was so polite, in fact, that he wouldn’t stop calling her “ma’am.”

“It’s so amazing to have the opportunity to thank and honor the people who worked so hard with me on this video,” Swift began. “There is a very clear reason why Post Malone is everyone in music’s favorite person to collaborate with, and it is because you are so ridiculously talented. You are so versatile. And you’re the most down to earth person.”

For example, she said, “Honestly, [he’s] so unfailingly polite it has taken me forever to get him to stop calling me ma’am.” She then asked Malone, whose real name is Austin Post, if he wanted to say a few words, and right on cue, he replied, “Yes, ma’am.”

He then found himself sweetly at an “absolute loss for words” and briefly stuttered. Finally, he said, “[Taylor is] absolutely one of the most kind and talented people I’ve ever had the honor of knowing and just the amount of work and care and love that she puts into everything she does, from the music video to everything. I watched her tied up to the operating table thing in the video, and she was just directing the music video from there. It was pretty badass.”

He concluded, “I just wanted to say thank you so very much for listening, and thank you so very much, Taylor, and I love you very much, and have a great night.”

Much to the delight of fans, Posty’s gentlemanly ways were first on full display in a behind-the-scenes video shared by Swift in June. In it, Swift can be heard explaining her vision for a scene in the music video, and Malone repeatedly nods his head and tells her, “Yes, ma’am.”

On a more serious note, Swift began her VMAs acceptance speech with a remembrance for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. “I wanted to say, waking up this morning in New York on September 11th, I’ve been thinking about what happened 23 years ago,” Swift said on stage. “Everyone who lost a loved one, everyone that we lost, and that’s the most important thing about today — and everything that happens tonight falls behind that.”

Swift is up for the most honors at Wednesday’s celebration, with 12 total nods, including for top awards of Video of the Year for “Fortnight” and Artist of the Year.
